Here is some milkweed found right behind the museum about to bloom up in St. Johnsbury. Slightly south in places as close as Ryegate, Vt, an observer posted that their milkweed is already in bloom. A number people have commented on its lovely fragrance and have mentioned how excited they are for it to bloom. Other than it’s fragrance and being a hostplant to monarch butterfly (a butterfly to watch for as part of our Community of Observers program), milkweed has been an historically important plant to people. Here is a website to explain the uses of milkweed.
